Puno: reopening of the Juliaca airport will reactivate the tourism sector

Last Thursday at the Inca Manco Capac airport Juliaca, the official launch ceremony for the restart of its operations was held. The travelers were greeted with dances. The activity was attended by various authorities, who pledged to reactivate the tourism production chain.

Briseida Pauro Pino, deputy manager of Tourism and Foreign Trade of the Provincial Municipality of PunoHe recalled that thousands of families, hotels, travel agents, restaurants, tour operators, entrepreneurs, artisans, among others, subsist on tourism.

He stated that with the reopening of the Juliaca airport, the tourist circuit of Lake Titicaca will be reactivated. He also suggested the promotion of the coffee route, in Sandia, the Bahuaja Sonene park, the section from the mountain range to the jungle, in Carabaya.

The mayor of the Provincial Municipality of San Román, Oscar Cáceres, stressed that Juliaca, as the communications hub of the region and economic axis of the south, requires providing security, transit and ordering conditions. He also announced the promotion of local businesses such as crafts.

S/28 million in losses

During the 108 days that the air terminal was closed, hotel owners lost more than S/28 million due to non-arrivals of touristsaccording to Federico Moore, a member of the Puno Hotel Chamber.

They explained that only on the festival of the Virgen de la Candelaria Puno, 40,000 visitors stopped arriving, including national and foreign tourists.
