Trade relations between Peru and taiwan continue to grow in recent years. Blueberry exports on the rise
One of the products that has presented a greater increase in its exports is the blueberry, which began its shipments to Taiwan in September 2020. Thus, during the 2020-2021 campaign, 229,664 kg were exported and by 2022 they increased by 67% and 385,581 kg were transferred to the Asian country. Already for the 2023 campaign, a high rise of 345% has been reached and currently 1 million 705,151 kg have been exported.
“Taiwan is located in fourth place as the main export destination for Peruvian blueberries,” said Miguel Vegas, general manager of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Peruvian Blueberries. “In this last season, 17 Peruvian companies have registered that have moved blueberries to Taiwan.”
It also indicates that with the current yield it is likely that this fruit will be brought to the Asian country every week of the year. The main producing regions are La Libertad, Lambayeque, Piura, Áncash, Lima and Ica. “In the last campaign we projected that thanks to blueberry exports 135,000 direct employment positions have been generated, of which 60% were occupied by women”Vegas added.
