The acceptance of the Ecuadorian yellow pitahaya in the Chinese market has encouraged the continuation of the export of this fruit to that country, after the first shipment of 7,745 kilograms on April 10, 17 deliveries have already been made in these two weeks.

A total of 11,432.50 kilograms, or 4,573 boxes, were exported, according to the data of the Agency for Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control (Agrocalidad), which is in charge of inspection control of the phytosanitary quality of fruit. He also indicated that these recent shipments were carried out by seven companies, six authorized collection centers and eight production sites, which are in accordance with the export protocol.

At the beginning of this month, from April 3rd, the production farms and collection centers that are part of the list on the website of the General Administration of Customs of China entered the market, after fulfilling the requirements demanded by the phytosanitary authorities.

Agrocalidad, in inter-ministerial coordination, and the Embassy of Ecuador in China are working together to promote the fruit in the Asian giant. The first activation to increase fruit consumption in China was last April 18, with an official launch ceremony.

During the event, which took place at Beijing’s largest wholesale market “Xinfandi”, Chinese consumers tasted the fruit.

For national foreign trade authorities, this fruit has great potential to enter the Chinese market, which has a population of 1.4 billion, of which 400 million are part of the middle class with average incomes.

In 2022, Ecuador exported more than 23,000 tons of fruit, which represented an income of more than 99 million dollars.
