MEF approves new external debt with German bank KfW for more than US$40 million

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) approved an operation of external debt with the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) for 40 million euros (about US$43.8 million at the exchange rate) to finance the “Support Program for the NAMA of Sustainable Urban Transport in Peru III”.

The aforementioned external debt operation is canceled through twenty consecutive semi-annual installments and, if possible, equal, with the first amortization installment due on May 15, 2028 and ending on November 15, 2037.

The operation accrues a variable interest rate based on the six-month Euribor rate, plus a fixed margin to be determined by KfW on the date the loan agreement is signed, which may be changed to a fixed interest rate of accordance with the interest rate policy of the aforementioned bank.

“However, if a circumstance of withdrawal of the aforementioned rate has taken place, the €STR interest rate will be applied, in accordance with what is indicated in the contract,” says Supreme Decree No. 068-2023-EF published today in The Official Gazette El Peruano.

The aforementioned external debt is subject to a commitment fee of 0.25% per year on the undisbursed loan balance, as well as a one-time administration fee of 1% on the total amount of the loan.
