Massification of natural gas in the south will begin with 240 km of pipelines in 2023

The massification of natural gas in the southern regions of the country will begin this 2023 with the construction of 240 kilometers of pipelines, distributed in the regions of Apurímac, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Junín, Cusco, Puno and Ucayali, following the route of the disappeared project 7. Regions.

According to information obtained by La República, the initial phase of the project, which commits a budget of S/800 million from the Social Energy Inclusion Fund (FISE) -S/150 million in the first stage-, contemplates the supply of natural gas for a total of 11,700 households:

• Ucayali: 58 km of networks to serve 2,000 families.
• Puno: 31 km of networks to serve 1,800 families.
• Cusco: 91 km of networks to serve 3,000 families.
• Ayacucho: 33 km of networks to serve 2,500 families.
• Huancavelica: 4 km of networks to serve 1,500 families.
• Junín: 18 km of networks to serve 600 families.
• Apurímac: 4 km of networks to serve 300 families.

It should be noted that the supply will be carried out virtually, that is, by means of trucks that will carry Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) while the construction of the southern gas pipelines is completed.

For this, it is expected to build 7 Regulation and/or Decompression Stations to transport the resource in the first year of execution. Then, families will be able to access the benefits of the FISE BonoGas.

At the moment, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) is working on three engineering files: Integrated Gas Transportation System (SITGAS), Coastal Gas Pipeline, and petrochemical plants, which will link the regions of Cusco, Ica, Puno, Arequipa, and Moquegua. and Tacna.

Finally, 6 vehicular natural gas service stations will be installed in Ayacucho, Cusco, Junín and Puno, as an energy alternative to gasoline and diesel. The coordinations are executed at the level of regional governments.
