Mirtha Vásquez announces the negotiation for the voluntary withdrawal of four mines in Ayacucho

Last Friday, November 19, the High Level Commission of the Executive Branch, chaired by the head of the Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez, held a meeting with the authorities of Huamanga together with leaders of the southern provinces of Ayacucho. In this dialogue, the premier reached an agreement with officials from the provinces of Lucanas, Parinacochas and Páucar del Sara Sara. In that sense, it agreed to create an executive commission that will negotiate the exit of four mining units.

“The headwaters of the basin are ecosystems that provide water to the territories. For this reason, we have agreed together with authorities and leaders of the provinces of Parinacochas, Lucanas and Páucar del Sara Sara (Ayacucho) measures to protect them from contamination ”, reads their Twitter post.

Likewise, Vásquez announced that an executive commission will be created that will seek to preserve the area and delimit spaces with mining companies, since in many cases, these would have been responsible for the environmental contamination of the area.

“We agreed to create an executive commission to negotiate the withdrawal and closure of four mining units, visits to affected areas and meetings with mining companies. Likewise, the delimitation of the headwaters of basins and environmental evaluation to identify sources of contamination ”, added the premier.

Regarding the four mentioned mining companies, Vásquez explained that they will not enjoy any expansion for exploitation or exploration processes. On the contrary, the State will require them to cease their activities promptly.

“We are going to enter the process of closing the mining activity with clear schedules, which is participatory so that you have confidence that it will be fulfilled. We will attend to your request with the competent sectors, such as the Ministry of Energy and Mines ”, declared Vásquez.

Following these new agreements, it was established that the Ministry of Energy and Mines It will be involved in this closure process and will present on December 15 the visit schedule to the mining units with the participation of the population.

Finally, Mirtha Vásquez apologized to those present and to the entire population for the inefficiency of the State for many years. “We want to give ourselves the opportunity to walk in a different way between the State and the population,” he said.
