IMF revises down its estimate of economic growth in Peru to 2.8% for 2022

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised downwards its projection of economic growth in Peru from 3% to 2.8% for this 2022, according to its latest global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) forecast report. According to IMF forecasts, Colombia would lead regional growth with 6.3%, followed by Argentina, which is expected to expand its economy by 4% by 2022.

Likewise, the international organization maintained its estimate of the economic growth of Peru by 2023 at 3%, the same forecast that is expected for Argentina. While Colombia would be the nation that would have the best performance next year with an expansion of 3.5%.

At the regional level, the IMF projects that the GDP of Latin America and the Caribbean will grow 0.5 percentage points more than estimated in its previous report published in April, reaching 3% this year, but it will grow less than forecast in 2023, a year in which a advance of only 2%.

The upward revision in Latin America and the Caribbean is thanks to a more vigorous recovery in major economies such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Chile.
