The Association of Beekeeping Producers of Guachapala (APAG) launched a new beekeeping product this week. This is his latest product, pollen ice cream, thanks to the support of the pastry shop El Tocte, in the canton of Guachapala (Azuay).
APAG started its activities in 2018 in the field of beekeeping under the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) in swarm capture, beehive management, feeding, reproduction and extraction of products, such as honey, pollen, wax and others with added value. .

With their legal status in MAG, producers have implemented projects for the development of their association and family, and currently market bee honey, pollen, yogurt with honey, mead and ice cream with pollen.
During the launch of the new product, the governor of Azuay, Matías Abad, and the district director of MAG, Giordano Torres, were present.

Luis Orellana, spokesperson for APAG, indicated that they were able to move forward with their venture with institutional support: “We thank MAG for its support over several years. We are close to the end of one year of legal life and we hope to continue hand in hand with them”.
As goals for the future, the association intends to industrialize its value-added products for commercialization at the cantonal, provincial and national levels.

For his part, Torres indicated that the state portfolio will support the development of the beehive expansion project for the association and the development of fairs that highlight the production and tourism values of Guachapal.
“As an association, we are growing step by step in our economic part. We are energizing beekeeping, which is not very well known in our canton, and which fulfills an extremely important task in our country, because thanks to these small pollinators we have food on our tables”, said Johana León, beekeeper of the association.
