He Basque government today, at the weekly meeting of the governing council, expressed its favorable criteria for processing the bill on subsidies together with a bill presented by EH Bildu to avoid the relocation of companies and encourage their establishment in the Basque Country. The initiative aims force companies with relocation plans return all aid received in the last 10 years.

As explained by the spokesman for the Basque Executive, Bingen Zupiria, the Basque Country currently has “sufficient regulation” to respond to cases of business relocation. In this sense, there are foral regulations in this regard and provisions to this end in the aid from the Basque Government directed to companies.

The Basque Government advocates proposing provisions that contribute to encouraging rooting and avoiding relocations “provided that these measures fit into the European regulatory framework and in our field of competence”. He warns, however, that any additional condition that exceeds the European regulatory framework would put the Basque Country and Basque companies “in inferior competitive conditions with respect to their environment”.
