The works to cover La Avanzada as it passes through Leioa will begin the week of April 17
The works are expected to last for 41 months. The Provincial Council of Bizkaia will invest 65 million euros.

The works to cover the BI-637 highway as it passes through Leioa will begin the week of April 17th. With an investment of 65 million euros, the project to cover La Avanzada will transform the current trench through which thousands of vehicles pass in the open into a new urban core with 4500 square meters of surface for pedestrian use and green areas.
As reported by the Diputación, the deputy for Infrastructure and Territorial Development, Imanol Pradales, and the mayor of Leioa, Iban Rodríguez, have announced the start date of the work from the premises that will serve as citizen service office.
Located at Calle Sabino Arana 54, the office will offer information to residents during the 41 months the work is expected to take longer.
The works, which include the improvement and modernization of the existing tunnel in the Avanzada, will make it possible to double the current walkway to the 824 meters long in the center of Leioa and suppress the noise pollution that now affects 2900 residents of this town.

From the Diputación they have underlined the “big improvement” in terms of noise pollution for the residents of the area, since 850 meters of anti-noise screens will be placed at the edge of the road.
In addition, and with the aim of “specifically improving protection in equipment as relevant as the Txomin Aresti school complex, the euskaltegi and the conservatory”, the non-passable roof will be extended which gives access to the mouth of the tunnel towards Bilbao up to the area around the currently existing pedestrian walkway.
