The keys to the new RGI law, which comes into force today
The benefit will go from 727.41 euros to 800.13 when it begins to be applied, in April 2023, and in the case of large families with minors it will rise from 1,086.15 to 1,680.27 euros, and the minimum age to receive it is 18 to 23 years.

The Law that will regulate the Basque Income and Inclusion Guarantee System enters into force today, Wednesday, although it will apply from the month of April. The Basque Parliament approved the new RGI law last December, with the support of the PNV, PSE-EE and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU. The law regulates all the social benefits of the Basque Autonomous Community.

Key dates
Regarding the amount, it will go from the current 727 euros for an adult to 803 euros per month. The mode of calculation of this benefit will no longer be referenced to the Minimum Interprofessional Wage, to be from 2024 to the indicator of the poverty risk rate, that is, to 60% of the average income corresponding to the State as a whole. In 2023 it would have the Minimum Vital Income as a reference.

Benefits
Regarding the average age to receive the RGI, it will go from 23 to 18 years old and between both ages, the applicant will be required to be registered with Lanbide for at least one year before requesting the aid and to also carry out an exercise in a situation of emancipation or “independent life”.
In addition, although in general the requirement to have three years of census to collect this aid, this term is made more flexible to vulnerable people.

Seniority on the register disappears for victims of sexist and domestic violence, trafficking and sexual exploitation, and for refugees. Nor will it be a requirement for those affected by terrorism or for Basque communities abroad.
-It also includes news in case of breach of obligations by the beneficiaries with the establishment of a system that generalizes the partial loss of the benefit. Total loss is reserved for the most serious cases.
It incorporates criteria for reconciling work and family life when assessing these breaches and protects minors with the possibility of maintaining the base amount even in cases of withdrawal of the RGI.
