This year gas massification will begin in Cusco, Ucayali, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Junín, Apurímac and Puno

For this 2023, the Government has an agenda to start the project to promote the massification of natural gas through a network of pipelines in Cusco, Ucayali, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Junín, Apurímac and Puno.

“The Government has launched an aggressive campaign to massify the natural gas so that more citizens have access to the benefits of this fuel, which belongs to all Peruvians,” said Óscar Vera Gargurevich, Minister of Energy and Mines, during the third extraordinary decentralized session of the Energy Commission of the Congress of the Republic, the which took place this Tuesday, March 28 at the facilities of the new Talara refinery, in Piura.

According to figures from Minem, throughout Peru, currently, there are 1,857,007 Peruvian households that have natural gas and 404,565 vehicles that use this economical fuel.

Likewise, it was reported that there are six new mining projects that will be promoted between this and the following year and that will have an investment of US$6.920 million. Those that will take place this year are Magistral and Reposición Antamina, both in Áncash; the future Corani silver mine, in Puno; and the Romina zinc plant in Huaral (Lima). By 2024, the following projects are expected to be executed: the Zafranal copper mine, in Arequipa; and the Yanacocha Sulfuros gold mine, in Cajamarca.

On the hydrocarbons side, it was specified that there are currently six lots in the exploration phase (107, XXIII, XXVII, Z61, Z62 and Z63) and another 26 lots in the exploitation phase. Regarding the latter, five are about to expire and would go to Petroperú, which would begin to operate them with a commercial partner.

Finally, the Minem reported that, to date, 31 electrification projects are being carried out in 15 regions, which must be completed by 2023 and whose investment amounted to S/698 million. “The projection of rural electricity coverage is to reach 90% of homes in remote and difficult-to-access sectors by the end of 2023,” Vera said.
