Euskaraz irakurri: Volkswagen Nafarroak Polo modelo ekoizteari utziko dio datorren urtean
Volkswagen Navarre stop producing the pole next year and will thus open two years of uncertainty until the start of manufacturing, in 2026, of the first electric car.
Carlos Zalduendo, representative of the plant’s Works Council for CCOO, explained that this Tuesday the VW management has communicated to them what had already been known unofficially for months: that after 40 years the Polo model will no longer be produced in Navarra in 2024.
The management spoke to you this Tuesday about this process of transition to the electric car, with two circumstances that will especially affect the reduction in production, the first forced by the necessary stops to adapt the factory itself to the new facilities and processes for the electric car , a transition that would begin as early as 2024.
The second concern stems from the European regulations on emission limits that are set to come into force in 2025 and for which the workforce is asking for a moratorium, since they understand that the necessary investments by manufacturers to adapt to the standard will entail a reduction in production.
“In any case, we have to work with the scenarios that may arise, and it is most likely that in 2024 we will have extensive periods of factory shutdown in summer and winter, and that we will also close one day a week, Fridays for example, and we don’t cover all the weekly production”, points out Zalduendo.
In this regard, he has committed the work of the Committee to seek “mechanisms that regulate this situation and seek the solutions that we need”, although he has been more optimistic regarding the end of that period because in 2026 “the scenario for the factory will be better than the one we currently have. There will be more employment and we hope that the scenario is good, we are working for that”, he said.
