Oil potential in the La Libertad sea would amount to 200,000 barrels per day, according to Anadarko

He Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) reported that the oil potential of lots Z-61, Z-62 Z 63, located in the Trujillo Basin, would amount to 200,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), according to estimates by Anadarko, an Oxy subsidiary. These are prospective resources.

In dialogue with the Energy and Mines Commission, the minister Oscar Vera Gargurevich He said that Anadarko, one of the largest independent producers remaining in the United States, has had good exploratory results -in the first phase- on the La Libertad offshore deposits. Therefore, it expects the 200,000 bpd to enter production before 2027.

“Through the seismic record, the company will confirm that it has found oil in significant volumes, which will allow us to have, in a very short time, options for the production of light oil in large quantities. So much so, that the company has passed to the second stage of exploration, and that is very good news for us,” he remitted.

In this sense, the head of Minem indicated that this confirmation by Anadarko in blocks Z-61, Z-62 and Z-63 would allow Peru to return to the great activity of upstream oil. The company maintains other commitments to search for hydrocarbons in the Caribbean Sea, specifically with the Colombian Ecopetrol.

“If we continue this exploration work and it is reconfirmed with the drilling, we could talk about that four years from now, maximum, we would be producing almost 200,000 barrels per day in this area. It would be a great opportunity for the country to return to the production of crude oil in large quantities. volumes like we had up to the 1990s”, assured the minister.

According to Minem, lots Z-61, Z-62 and Z-63 passed the first period of the exploratory phase (the seismic reprocessing was completed, but samples obtained from the piston core are still being evaluated in the laboratory). According to the results obtained, the contractor company is entering the second exploratory period, sources close to Perupetro told La República.

“It is in the interest of our management to motivate and encourage investors to explore with the possibility of obtaining crude oil and selling or processing it, because they are resources that 30 years from now will no longer be of interest due to the advancement of other energies. That is why it is It is important that investments are made now,” said Vera.
