The demonstration this Thursday against the pension reform in Paris It was marred by fierce clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement, the destruction of street furniture and commercial windows.

Individuals dressed in black and wearing hoods several hundred meters ahead of the union procession have fired projectiles at law enforcement, who have responded with tear gas during the route between the Place de la Bastille and the Opera where the march is scheduled to end.

In some points, they have started fires taking advantage of the garbage accumulated in the streets due to the collection strike that has lasted for more than two weeks, which forced the firefighters to intervene. By mid-afternoon, police sources have indicated that 14 arrests had been made.

Parallel to these riots, the union parade passed peacefully, with 800,000 participantsaccording to the first figures from the CGT, which, if confirmed, would be the largest concentration since the protests against the pension reform began on January 19.

As in Paris, the demonstrations have also degenerated into incidents in other cities in the French state, such as Rennes, Nantes, Bordeaux or Lorient.

The main union leaders have distanced themselves from the violent acts and have condemned them, while they have accused the president, Emmanuel Macron, of relying on them to discredit the force of their demonstrations.

France lives the ninth day of protests against a text of law that delays the minimum retirement age by two years, up to 64, which was definitively approved this Monday after two motions of no confidence against the Government failed, one of them by only nine votes.
