The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Pedro Francke, reported that the Peruvian tax and fiscal system has high levels of non-compliance, which translates into low collection.
So much so that, according to MEF calculations for 2020, non-compliance with the payment of Income Tax in Peru amounts to 49.5%.
“Evasion and avoidance in Peru -according to calculations for 2020- reaches 49.5% of Income Tax. Practically half of the Income Tax is not paid, ”said the minister.
Likewise, it indicated that in the case of the General Sales Tax (IGV), the non-compliance is 38.1%.
Francke added that this is a “chronic, structural” problem in Peru and Latin America, and explained that comparing with figures from 6 years ago, non-compliance with the IR was 44% and the IGV was 28.7%.
“We have worsened, and compared to other Latin American countries, they all also have a tax evasion problem, but not as acute as the problem that Peru has,” he said.
Faced with this problem, the Executive proposes a tax reform that seeks to increase collection by an additional 60,000 million in 5 years.
