Loreto: Petroperú evacuates workers before possible takeover at Station 1

Petróleos del Perú – Petroperú SA confirmed the evacuation of all its workers and the contractor personnel of the North Peruvian Pipeline Station 1 – ONP, located in the Saramuro community, Urarinas district, Loreto, in order to “safeguard its integrity in the face of the threat received” by the local community.

On November 13, a group of residents of the Saramuro community approached the plant, now abandoned, and announced that they were giving 72 hours to leave said facilities, after which they would proceed to take control of the Station.

This as a measure of pressure because it considers that the State does not meet its demands for health and education services, among others.

“Petroperú once again urges the parties involved to continue betting on dialogue and invokes the population to desist from their measures of force, thus avoiding putting the integrity of the people at risk,” the state oil company said through a statement.

Station 1 is neighboring the communities of Saramuro and Saramurillo, to which it provides, completely free of charge, electricity and water services. With this measure of force, the population will no longer have these basic services.

This protest measure is similar to that adopted by those who have taken the Station 5 Since last October 4, a situation that has kept the hydrocarbon industry in the Amazon paralyzed, with serious damage to the region and the country “by ceasing to have the economic resources it provides.”

“The North Peruvian Pipeline, considered a critical national asset, must regain the normal functioning of its hydrocarbon transport operations, a task that benefits all Peruvians,” the document concludes.
