Piura banana growers lose more than a million soles after flooding 60 hectares of plantations

Piura. Dozens of small organic banana producers were affected by the overflow of the Sullana streams, with which more than 60 hectares of these plantations were destroyed and flooded in recent weeks in La Perla del Chira.

These banana treesbelonging to the Irrigation Commission of Miguel Checa de Salitral, regretted the crisis of their activities, since this production was destined for the export to different markets. In that sense, they regretted that the economic damage amounts to 1,200,000 soles.

They requested the rapid intervention of the central government with machinery and works to prevent further flooding, especially in the Samán sector, and, with it, the economic losses that amount to more than one million soles.

Those affected requested the immediate intervention of the Executive through the Ministry of Agriculture and other institutions to adopt measures in the short, medium and long term. For now, it is the same field men who are placing barriers to prevent flooding of their crops.
