Government will ask Indecopi to initiate a new investigation into the invasion of Chinese garments

According to Saldaña, president of the board of directors of the Gamarra Peru Business Association, This decision puts almost 100,000 mypes at risk of bankruptcyand would affect 400,000 direct jobs and 1 million indirect jobs.

“The president has promised to meet immediately with the new president of indecopi to start an official investigation. He has promised that next Monday at the same time we will meet and they will give us answers and concrete measures in response to this demand.”

According to the leader, imported clothing has invaded the national market in such a way that from 2016 to date it has doubled. For example, if in 2016 200 million garments were imported, 2022 closed with almost 400 million. In addition, according to an investigation that is being carried out in conjunction with the SNI, it has been found that in China a garment costs US$4.5, but once it enters through Peruvian customs, it costs less than US$2.

Saldaña reiterated that the only thing they hope is that it be investigated in a “clear and transparent” way and that it be provided to indecopi the necessary resources to carry out the corresponding investigation.
