Minem seeks S/350 million for the massification of gas

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) formalized the proposal launched by its counterpart of Energy and Mines (Minem) to access a supplementary credit of S/350 million, in order to accelerate the massification of natural gas, process that has already begun some of its stages of infrastructure construction thanks to the injection of resources to FISE granted by the program With Punche Peru.

As advanced to La República in the edition of February 21, with the new credit, recently included in the Executive’s bill 4482/2022, The Minem will seek to increase the number of homes expected to be massified in 2023, a figure currently located at 280,478, but which could reach 305,678 with the new resources, that would focus on the southern regions.

If it materializes, the massification would culminate in 2023 with a total of 2 million 120,363 Peruvian families served.

In detail, S/60 million will be allocated to increase the base of beneficiaries of the FISE Discount Voucher program; that is, families that receive a direct subsidy to buy LPG cylinders —which is different from natural gas— in areas where this key input for the family economy has skyrocketed in the last 48 months.

A total of S/57 million will go to the home connection in vulnerable areas, while S/183 million will be directed to the construction of networks throughout the territory (the advancement of the infrastructure, itself), with an additional 505 kilometers to the 1,415 expected at the beginning of the year.

The new credit, which must receive the permission of the Congress, It is not just limited to connecting homes. More than S/7 million will also be allocated to bring natural gas to 10 large hospitals nationwide (5 in Lima, 2 in the north and 3 in the south), while S/41 million will be used to promote the conversion of 10,000 additional vehicles to this cleaner and more economical combustion system.

For this purpose, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Oscar Vera Gargurevich, has started a career of loyalty meetings with various regional governments and actors from the private hydrocarbons sector, in order to consolidate the route of the S/491 million already delivered within the framework of the Con Punche Peru plan and the Annual Promotions Program 2023, and waiting for the S/350 million that the MEF I could grant you

Thus, this week, five concessionary companies signed the agreements to start the construction of prioritized natural gas network projects and extend the process of massification in the regions of Piura, La Libertad, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, Áncash, Ica, Lima, Callao, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna. The gas advances.
