Great Wholesale Market of Lima: What foods dropped in price this Thursday?

The supply of Great Wholesale Market of Lima (GMML) fell by -10.1% today, Thursday, March 16, as 8,143 tons of food entered compared to the average 9,058 tons that usually arrive on this day, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (midagri).

However, the delivery has made it possible to increase the stock of foods such as onion (100%), garlic (100%), lemon (90%), potato (80%), sweet potato (70%), tomato (90%), apple (80%), orange (80%), papaya (80%), pineapple (70%), among others.

Price of most foods falls

Likewise, today around 58% of the foods monitored by Midagri registered a drop in their wholesale prices.

The products that recorded the greatest variations were lemons in drawers and lemons in bags, which fell by S/1.85 and S/1.83, to S/4.13 and S/4.33 per kg, respectively. This is a drop of more than 50% compared to the prices of Monday when the kg exceeded S/8.00.

The prices of mountain green beans and mountain peas also decreased, standing at S/2.33 and S/9.13 each after falling by S/1.03 and S/0.75 per kg.

The only foods that became more expensive were purple sweet potatoes (S/2.80) and Creole carrots (S/1.77) with increases of S/0.10 and S/0.12 per kg.

Prices in markets will also decrease

The Republic was able to verify that prices in the capital’s retail markets also decreased. For example, in the La Paradita Market in Chorrillos, the lemon went from S/14 to between S/6 and S/7 per kg. While in the La Merced market in the Lima fence it dropped to S/5 after selling at S/10 per kg during the week.

The tomato remained around S/4 per kg, while the onion oscillated between S/2 and S/3 per kg. The yellow potato was sold between S/4 and S/6 per kg.
