Siemens Gamesa starts up an offshore wind farm in Sarriguren and Zamudio

The wind turbine manufacturer has announced that by 2025 the team at this marine center, divided between Sarriguren and Zamudio, will reach 50 qualified employees with an engineering and management profile.

Siemens Gamesa will launch its first offshore wind center in Spaina decision with which the company takes the first step for the future development of Projects offshore on Spanish soil. The teams will be located at Sarriguren (Navarre) and Zamudio (Vizcaya), which will give rise to a “hub” Spanish for offshore wind power, as announced by the company in a press release on Tuesday.

The center, which will reach 50 employees in 2025 and whose positions will be filled with qualified employees with a engineering and management profilewill support the global team dedicated to the execution of offshore wind projects in Northern Europe.

Likewise, in addition to guiding the future development of offshore wind power in Spain, where there are still no commercial projects, this initiative will strengthen the R&D capacity of Siemens Gamesa in the country, where one of the company’s largest centers is located in this scope: Sarriguren.

Initially, the wind turbine manufacturer wants to fill these vacancies with the personnel affected by the current ERE, agreed between Siemens Gamesa and the UGT and CCOO unions.

In 2022, sales from Spanish suppliers to Siemens Gamesa for offshore projects in Denmark, Germany, France and the United Kingdom reached 143 million, 10% of total sales and far exceeding the figure of 55 million registered in 2021.
