Complementary Risk Work Insurance: SCTR premium placement will bounce 15%

Premiums for placements of the Complementary Risk Work Insurance (SCTR) They will increase this year by at least 15% compared to the same period in 2020, due to the economic reactivation and a “rebound effect” in the market, said the insurance broker Lockton Peru.

According to Idan Cabello, Risk and Security manager of the organization, companies that carry out risk activities in sectors such as mining, energy, fishing, manufacturing, construction and sanitation contract this type of policy due to its ability to transfer risks and mitigate losses. .

“If you do not have timely advice, you can exceed costs of up to 30% of the payroll, and in the next renewal climb to the TOP 5 of the budget of human management expenses of the companies,” he said.

It should be noted that SCTR coverage ranges from medical benefits for work accidents and occupational diseases to financial benefits, such as compensation and life pensions.

In medical benefits, this type of insurance covers: preventive assistance and advice in occupational health, medical, pharmacological, hospital, surgical, rehabilitation and labor rehabilitation for the affected insured, as well as prosthetic and orthopedic devices if necessary.

On the other hand, in terms of economic benefits, it covers disability due to accident, survival and burial expenses, Cabello said.

What is a Supplementary Occupational Risk Insurance?

The Complementary Risk Work Insurance (SCTR) is a mandatory policy that protects the health and integrity of employees of companies that perform high-risk activities such as work at heights, confined spaces, hot work, handling of hazardous materials, work with electric power, excavations and trenches, extractive activities, among others.

In the event of a claim, those high-risk companies that do not have the SCTR for their personnel or that have contracted insufficient coverage, would be responsible to EsSalud or the EPS for the cost of the benefits that these entities will grant to the affected worker, regardless of their civil responsibility towards the employee and his beneficiaries, for the damages caused.

In our country, the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) warned that labor inspectors will strengthen the control to verify that companies that carry out risky activities hire the SCTR, and will fine those who have violated the law.

Lockton Peru: What is the importance of having SCTR insurance?

Cabello explains that the importance of this type of insurance lies in two fundamental aspects:

  • In a vulnerable country like Peru, an accident or illness without SCTR results in a long-term family crisis. Beyond the economic costs that, in itself, families can hardly face, we have the consequences in the damage to health, the loss or impairment of work capacity, and the psychological and social effects that they cause in the family nucleus, the disability or death of a family member.
  • The second aspect is the company as such, since it reinforces the duty of prevention and consolidates an adequate Occupational Health and Safety Policy, as it is compulsory insurance for temporary and permanent workers, he explained.
