Maúrtua on Peru’s entry into the OECD: “Economic indicators generate good auspices”

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oscar Maúrtua, announced that the Peru economic indicators are giving “good auspices” in the middle of the process of accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), process ratified by the president Pedro Castillo.

During his presentation before the Special Commission for Monitoring the Incorporation of Peru into the OECD (CESIP-OECD), of the Congress, the Foreign Minister affirmed that our country has to achieve “more tangible aspects and undoubtedly a more insistent effort” for its incorporation to the international forum.

“We are re-emerging economic indicators, they are confirming that our exports are healthy, that our fiscal policy is consistent, that inflation control is manageable, and so on. This is generating good auspices for us ”, said Maúrtua before the parliamentary working group.

Along these lines, the official said that our nation has acceptance in its aspirations to join the OECD. “There is recognition of the efforts of Peru.”

In addition, he recalled that access to the OECD It is not an end but part of a process that seeks to have an efficient state with quality services in education and health that contributes to closing the gaps of structural inequality with a view to achieving inclusive and environmentally sustainable development, with a citizen-centered approach.

Also, that “it opens opportunities for investment and capital flow so necessary in the creation of jobs and the increase of the material well-being of workers.”

Peru progress

During the meeting, Óscar Maúrtua highlighted some achievements in the process of joining the OECD through the Country Program and Work Plan. They stand out from them:

– Subscription of the Multilateral Agreement of Competent Authorities for the Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information (November 2020).

– Multilateral Convention against tax evasion and avoidance (June 2018).

– Mutual Assistance Convention in Tax Matters (2018).
