Through the Ministerial Resolution No. 000098-2023-Produce, The Ministry of Production decided to establish a reproductive ban on the hake resource (Merluccius gayi peruanus) for 30 calendar days. This will occur in the area between the northern limit of the Peruvian maritime domain and 04°00’S. In addition, it will apply from 00:00 on the day after the regulation is published.
However, the provision is not applicable to artisanal fishing vessels implemented with passive fishing gear and gear, included in Supreme Decree No. 006-2022-Produce.
In the case of the processing of the hake resource, it may be carried out within 48 hours of the start of the aforementioned reproductive ban. Likewise, the commercialization, transport and storage of this product can be carried out as long as there is documentation that demonstrates that it was extracted before the validity of the measure.
This resolution is given after the monitoring and follow-up of the reproductive process of hake, carried out by the Institute of the Sea of Peru – Imarpe. For its part, the Satellite Monitoring System for fishing vessels (Sisesat) is the entity in charge of controlling and monitoring compliance with the ban.
Companies that do not comply with what is established by Produce will receive infractions according to the General Fisheries Law and the Regulations for the Inspection and Sanction of Fishing and Aquaculture Activities.
