OSIPTEL: mobile phone portability reached 424,629 lines in February

A total of 424,629 mobile lines changed their operating company in February of this yearevidencing a decline of 6.17% compared to the same period last year, reported the Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (OSIPTEL).

Portions corresponding to the postpaid segment represented 68.20% of the total, while 31.80% belonged to the prepaid modality, according to the information available in the PUNKU computer tool. Thus, 289,604 portings of postpaid lines were completed, which represented a decline of 2.47% compared to February 2022. Meanwhile, the prepaid segment decreased 13.24% compared to the same month last year, totaling 135,025 portings in February .

The number portability process, whether for a fixed or mobile service, It is free and allows the user to keep their phone number when changing the operating company. In this way, it contributes to promoting competition between mobile and fixed service operators for the benefit of users, as they have to strive to retain their subscribers and attract new customers.

Claro obtained the best net result

For the second month in a row, Claro obtained the highest positive net balance (the difference between lines won and lost), reaching 21,789 net mobile lines ported in Februaryfollowed by Entel with 12,358 and the virtual mobile operator (MVNO) Dolphin with 7.

On the other hand, Movistar (-23,231), Bitel (-10,286), Flash (-519), Guinea Mobile (-116) and Suma Móvil (-2) were the operating companies that had a negative net balance in February 2023.
