The French Government presented this Monday a according to distribution groups of the French State to create a basket of “anti-inflation” products, which can be freely configured.

In this way, the Executive meets the demands of these companies, which refused to be imposed a basket of basic products at a fixed price, and, in exchange, the companies have agreed to reduce their margins. The objective is to combat the rise in food prices, which was 14.5% last February in France. These are the keys to the “anti-inflation” basket:

-Each firm will have autonomy to define its own list and set their prices.

-The products will have a common label with the colors of the French flag and the text “anti-inflation quarter”.

Carrefour will launch from March 15 a basket with 200 products at frozen amounts and for less than two euros with healthy and fresh products from the Carrefour and Simply brands.

intermarché it will do the same with almost 500 items, where there will be fresh products, dairy products, fish, fruits and vegetables.

Regarding other alternatives, the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Mairehas refused to lower VAT, which it has described as an “ineffective and costly” measure.

Regarding price fixing, Le Maire has assured that France is “a nation that believes in free trade”, so it is not up to the State to intervene in this regard.

In addition, the head of the Economy has warned that he will ask industrial producers to reopen price negotiations with distributors in June, the scheduled end date of the “anti-inflation quarter”, instead of waiting for the beginning of 2024.
