Osiptel: more than half a million mobile lines changed their operating company in October

The Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) announced that 519,291 lines changed operating company in October. This is the highest number in 22 months of mobile portability.

Mobile portations in October were 7.5% higher than that reported in September. Likewise, Osiptel announced that compared to October 2020, portabilities were 28.6% more.

This increase is part of a historical record in the evolution of covered mobile lines of postpaid origin, which reached 323,057 lines, according to Osiptel. This would correspond to a new high in seven years.

Through a press release, Osiptel announced that this increase in mobile line porting meant that “its share also rises and corresponds to 62.2% of the total number of mobile lines that changed operator in October, while the remaining 37.8% it belonged to prepaid mobile lines, which totaled 196,234 mobile lines ”.

“In the last ten months of the year more than 4.5 million mobile portings have been accumulated, which shows a recovery of 57.4% compared to the same period of 2020. Commercial competition is returning to levels prior to the pandemic”, said the executive president of Osiptel, Rafael Muente Schwarz.

Results in mobile porting

In October, the companies achieved more positive monthly net shipments (that is, the difference between lines won and lost) were from Claro, Entel and Guinea Mobile. Claro obtained 44,182 net covered lines, while Entel obtained 6,816 net carried lines and Guinea Mobile added 402 net carried lines.

For their part, the operators Movistar, Flash and Bitel obtained a negative balance as a result of the greater number of lost mobile lines. “As a result of the portability exercise, these companies recorded a negative result of 41,063, 9,171 and 1,166 lost net lines, each one, respectively,” Osiptel pointed out.

Fixed telephone lines

As for the changes of operator in fixed telephone lines during October of this year, they were a total of 2,353. Which represents 32.4% less than the shipments registered the previous month, but 62.4% higher than the same month in 2020.

During October 2021, Claro and Americatel were the companies that achieved the highest positive net balance of 1,450 and 431 fixed lines. Movistar, for its part, obtained a negative balance of 2,144 fixed lines, which, according to Osiptel, accumulates eight consecutive months of a balance with more lost lines.
