Driver spending is reduced by 70% with electric cars

More and more citizens, when buying a car, opt for a different option to the conventional ones that run on gasoline. According to Sunarp, the sale of electric vehicles in Peru has grown 84% in the last two years. In addition, during the first month of 2023, commercialized 299 electrified transports60.8% more than in the same period of 2022.

The most demanded are conventional hybrids (2,048), pure electric (165) and plug-in hybrids (107), according to reports by the Automotive Association of Peru (APP).

One of the main advantages of this type of mobility is the reduction in CO2 emissions, which are the ones that generate strong environmental pollution. Another benefit that is had is the costs, since they are reduced by up to half due to the lower cost of drivers in maintenance.

“A kilometer of transport or transfer in an electric vehicle costs you S/1 and in a combustion one it can cost you S/2. In addition, the maintenance cost of an electric vehicle is 50% or 70% cheaper than others. There is a saving there, ”he told La República Mario Gonzalesgeneral manager of Luz del Sur, within the framework of the inauguration of the first charging station for electric cars.

During the same event, the Minister of Production, Raul Perez Reyes, declared that in the coming weeks a package of measures will be launched in order to promote electromobility in the country, the target audience being taxi drivers who still keep their vehicles fueled. Thus, with these initiatives it is expected to convert up to 10,000 cars.

“After the standard is approved, we believe that, in the first year, we could convert 10,000 vehicles to electric motors. Previously, we would have to work on training and certification processes for this process”the official said.

For his part, the manager of Luz del Sur stated that the high price for importing this type of vehicle is a problem facing the country and that incentives are needed to continue advancing.
