BCRP: all business expectations recovered in February, despite social upheaval

He Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) reported that, in February of this year, all the indicators of business expectations and the current situation -with the exception of the level of production- recovered with respect to the previous month. In the month, six indicators are in the optimistic range.

During the month in which some protests in the interior of the country were accentuated, the expectations for the national economy in 3 months went from 32 to 42 points, while in a year it increased from 47 to 52. Also the expectations regarding the sector where each surveyed businessman develops went from 44 to 44 for the next 3 months, while 12 advanced from 51 to 55.

Meanwhile, the expectations of the company’s situation in the next quarter grew from 45 to 48 points, while one year from 55 to 59. The demand for products in the second half of 2023 also reached 49 points, from the previous 45, with a 12-month escalation from 56 to 60.

Finally, the expectation of hiring personnel at 3 months went from 43 to 45 points, while at 12 it advanced from 50 to 54. Investment, the most demanded chapter, went from 44 to 46 in the short term, while in the long, 51 to 55.

BCRP: current situation expectations

Regarding the current situation, the BCRP survey shows that business expectations went from 46 to 48 points; sales, from 39 to 42; Demand with respect to expectations, from 34 to 37; and purchase orders with respect to the previous month, from 39 to 41.

Only the current production picture forecast by businessmen stagnated and fell from 42 to 40 points in February. Unwanted inventory days – an indicator of low product turnover – improved by one day, from 14 to 13 in the last month.
