He Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) reported that, at the end of 2022, Telefónica and Claro reduced their participation in the fixed fiber optic internet market compared to new alternatives such as Wow and the group made up of Wi-net and Optical Technologies.
In detail, in the last twelve months, 1,224,862 fixed internet connections with fiber optics were reported, which represented an advance of 92.35% compared to the same period in 2021, when 636,776 connections were registered.
In other words, in just one year, there was an increase of more than half a million fiber optic connections, which reaffirms the interest and preferences of Peruvians for fast, constant and stable Internet access.
“Fiber optic connections at the end of 2022 represented 37.42% of the total connections to the fixed internet access service nationwide, becoming the main engine for the growth of this market,” the regulatory body signed.
According to the Punku computer tool, which collects the information reported by the operating companies to Osiptel, the number of connections that use fiber optic technology to the home (FTTH) has increased steadily in the last five years. , accumulating an average annual growth rate of 171.64%.
Although the penetration of the service with this type of technology advanced throughout the country, the increase registered in the number of connections in Lima and Callao (+113.66%) stands out compared to the same period in 2021, for a total of 702,554 connections. at the end of 2022.
Regarding the connections in the rest of the country, a growth of 69.61% was evidenced, going from 307,955 connections to 522,308 connections.
Osiptel: WoW and Win-net gain ground over Telefonica and Claro
At the end of 2022, Telefónica and Claro reduced their participation in the last twelve months, by 12.24 and 2.21 percentage points, respectively. While the Wow company and the group made up of wifi and Optical Technologiesincreased their participation by 7.75 and 2.05 percentage points, respectively.
In this way, at a national level, Telefónica occupies the first place in this market with 38.65%, followed by the group made up of Wi-net and Optical Technologies (23.70%), Claro (13.22%) , Wow (11.57%), the group made up of Fiberlux, Fiberlux Tech and Fiberline (2.92%), and other companies (9.94%).
At the departmental level, in Lima and Callao, Telefónica occupies the first place of participation in this market with 39.31%, followed by the group made up of Wi-net and Optical Technologies (37.46%), Claro (6 .62%), the group made up of Fiberlux, Fiberlux Tech and Fiberline (4.01%), Wow (2.64%), Bantel (1.64%) and other companies (8.32%).
Meanwhile, in the regions, Telefónica occupies the first place of participation with 37.77%, followed by Wow (23.57%), Claro (22.10%), followed by the group made up of Wi-net and Optical Technologies (5.20%), the group made up of Fiberlux, Fiberlux Tech and Fiberline (1.46%), and other companies (9.90%).
