Siemens slams the entire team of Gamesa’s Spanish executives

In the midst of a downward revision of its profit forecast for this year and sharp falls in the stock market in 2021, the German Siemens has completed the departure of the entire Spanish management team from its subsidiary Gamesa, which he acquired in 2017. The last to come out was Enrique Pedrosa, CEO for Spain, on September 10. Pedrosa joined Gamesa in 2002 and since then has held various positions of responsibility in the commercial area, such as the global management of Marketing, Large Accounts and Sales. In 2020 he was appointed general manager for Spain of the firm, one of the world leaders in the manufacture of wind turbines.

Pedrosa was also responsible for ‘onshore’ of Hispano-America, Southern Europe and Africa, a position in which he will be temporarily replaced by the Brazilian Paulo Soares. His replacement at the head of Spain will be decided in the coming weeks.

What’s more, Richard Luijendijk, current Head of the LEAP program, will become Head of Project Management onshore effective October 1, replacing Alberto Daughters, who has served in office since February 2021, according to sources familiar with the situation. The firm’s plans for Daughters are to stay in this department but under Luijendijk.

Finally, Florian Heineman, LEAP Project Manager, will join the company to lead the Office of Transformation in replacement of Antonio de Gregorio (McKinsey) also starting October 1.

With these changes, the list of Spanish Gamesa executives who have left the firm after the landing of the Germans from Siemens is close to ten. «A escabechina», sums up one of those affected by the ‘clean’ carried out from Germany.

That list tops it Ignacio Martin, former CEO since May 2017. Martín left the company due to differences with the German branch and was replaced by Markus Tacke, until that moment director of the wind division of the German. Martin was followed Ignacio Artazcoz, CFO, Andoni Cortajarena, general secretary, and later David Mesonero, CFO, who closed the syndicated loan of 2,500 million euros in 2019 that has given the company liquidity.

More Spanish departures

Following the departure of the management committee, there have been other casualties that have struck down the team of Spanish executives from Gamesa in the new Siemens Gamesa. Is about Antonio De la Torre (Technology), Jose antonio miranda (CEO of the Americas), Ricardo Chocarro (CEO Onshore) e Iñaki Murgiondo (Industrial director).

To all this must be added the departure of Iberdrola from the firm’s shareholders, which owns 8% of the capital, precisely because of its differences in management with the German side. The Spanish power company sold its 8% to Siemens in February 2020 for 1,100 million euros, after even their differences came to face the two companies in court.
