Second anchovy fishing season 2022 culminates with 1.91 million MT caught

The fishing union specified that, during the extractive season of this resource in the north-central zone of the country, it was possible to capture 84% of the quota assigned by the Ministry of Production (Produce), corresponding to 2.28 million MT, according to ministerial resolution 391-2022-PRODUCE.

As recalled, the second season began late on November 28, 2022. Previously, a four-day exploratory fishing was recommended, which took place between November 23 and 27, the date on which oceanographic conditions were favorable. .

The SNP explained that, although warm conditions prevailed in the second half of December, some industrial fishing activities were affected.

“Fishing in November is not the same as in January, due to factors related to sea temperature, waves, spawning, among others,” said Cayetana Aljovín, head of the union, who demanded better compliance with fishing schedules by The authority.

SNP estimates that the results of this second 2022 anchovy fishing season will translate into around US$1 billion in exports of fishmeal and fish oil. Both marine ingredients are the basis of aquaculture in the world, which should contribute to the economic reactivation of the country, the institution confirmed.
