Shoes imported from China, Malaysia and other countries, replace our national footwear for their low prices.
The former mayor of the El Porvenir district and leather and footwear businessman, Víctor Rebaza Benites, revealed that the sale of school shoes manufactured by the 3,200 micro and small businesses in Porvenir has decreased by 50%. This is due to shoe import Chinese and the pandemic crisis.
“We are talking about the fact that sales have dropped by 50% due to the crisis and unfair competition through the importation of Asian footwear, mainly from China. To this we must add that educational institutions no longer require the single uniform; now you can go with sneakers or dress shoes. This situation affects some 2,000 small and micro-entrepreneurs who produce in 3,200 formal mypes,” Rebaza asserted.
Delving into figures, he added that a slight improvement in sales is projected due to the school timebut he remembered that, if before a manufacturer sold ten dozen pairs, today it sells two.
“This, precisely because of the imports from China, Malaysia and other countries, which replace our national footwear due to the price, despite the fact that our product is of guaranteed leather. Imported footwear is 80% of the market and only 20% is national,” lamented Rebaza. He asserted that, due to the lack of State support for micro and small entrepreneurs, they are in crisis.
