Jobs in the export sector reached a record number and exceeded 4.1 million in 2022

The most important sector was agribusiness with 1,600,628 jobs thanks to the largest superfood shipments. Traditional mining followed with 931,767 jobs.

The most important was agribusiness with 1,600,628 jobs thanks to the largest shipments of superfoods, although they presented a decline of -1.2%, followed by traditional mining with 931,767 (fall of -14.8%). and traditional agriculture with 614,799 (44.1%) due to the greater demand for labor for the processing and export of coffee and sugar.

The business union also indicated that the item of clothing maintained a stock of 329,498 due to shipments of cotton t-shirts, shirts, sweaters, baby clothes, dresses, etc. On the other hand, fishing for direct human consumption generated 184,286 (-2.7%).

Together, these 5 activities concentrated 89% of the total jobs created by exports in 2022, detailed the report ‘Impact of exports: employment and GDP’ from CIEN-ADEX.

At the regional level, the largest number of jobs in the export sector was registered in Lima (more than 1 million), followed by Ica (478,403) and La Libertad (457,490), concentrating 47.6% of the total, with the main activity being to agribusiness. In contrast, the ones that presented the least labor impulse were Huánuco, Huancavelica and Loreto, representing only 0.2% of the total.
