MEF on TC ruling: “It is a measure with a negative impact on the country’s finances”

Minister Alex Contreras announced that this Tuesday, February 21, they will officially present objections to a sentence that prohibits Sunat from charging millions in interest, which companies such as Telefónica and Scotiabank accumulate after decades of trials and appeals.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex contrerasargued that the recent ruling of the Constitutional Court (TC), which prohibits the collection of default interest from companies that maintain debts with the Peruvian State, represents a severe blow to the economic stability of the country.

During the presentation of the Con Punche Peru – Tourism Plan, Contreras Miranda said that this Tuesday the 21st they will formally object to this retroactive sentence, questioned by both Sunat and various specialists in tax matters.

“It is a measure that has a negative impact on the country’s public finances and there are several elements that we object to,” he said.

Previously, Sunat said that this ruling has generated a precedent for large companies to stop paying more than S/12,000 million for unpaid tax interests with the country.

This decision would directly harm the population, since the money that enters the State for these payments is destined to solve social demands related to education, health, housing, work and security.

“I prefer to take this discussion to tomorrow, we will have a specific pronouncement,” the minister anticipated.

Specialists such as the economist Luis Arias Minaya explained to La República that this decision by the TC magistrates comes when several trials with important companies come to an end, as is the case with Telefónica, Cerro Verde and Scotiabank.
