He Medical Union of Navarra (SMN) has decided call off the strike of public health practitioners started on february 1 after receiving the support of about two thirds of the doctors attending the four assemblies held this Monday, although the possibility of calling a new indefinite strike as of March 15 is kept if the regional government fails to comply with what was agreed.
It has been confirmed by the general secretary of the SMN, Alberto Pérez, after finishing the assemblies held in the hospitals of Estella, Ubarmin, Pamplona and Tudela, meetings that have been attended about 200 people in total and that, in the case of the University Hospital of Navarra (HUN) “has been intense”, he has recognized since those who have not supported the agreement intended to continue on strike.
Pérez has indicated that despite calling off the strike as of tonight midnight, they have maintained “a guarantee because they catch us punished”, so that “tomorrow we will call a new indefinite strike again as of March 15, which we will execute if we see that the deadlines are being delayed or that there are no signs that the agreements will be fulfilled”.
He has also indicated that it will be this Wednesday when they will meet again with the Government of Navarra to formally sign the agreement, “and from there start with the execution of the measures, first of all, the resolutions to block the consultations” and not exceed established daily patients.
Asked about his assessment, he said that personally is “delighted”both for the result and for the development of the assemblies: “People have been very participatory, saying things very well, expressing their doubts and their problems.”
He has also had a message for him about a third of colleagues who chose to continue on strike: “The message is that they are still right. Then I will have to retract in a few weeks and say that the proposal that the SMN had brought was not correct and that they were right, that we should have continued on strike because the Health department has fooled us.”
He has said to them “to greatly appreciate their sincerity, that they have not been dragged down by the bulk of the votes. They have maintained their position, have reasoned and defended” what they raised.
