Produce authorizes second season of anchovy fishing from November 22

The Ministry of Production (Produce) announced the start of the second fishing season for the anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resources for indirect human consumption, starting next Monday, November 22.

According to Ministerial Resolution No. 380-2021- PRODUCE, the second fishing season will run in the area from 12º00 ′ LS to 16º00 ′ LS and will extend until reaching the maximum total allowable catch limit established at 2 million 047 thousand tons for the north central area of the country.

This resolution also prohibits the extraction and processing of anchovy specimens with sizes smaller than those provided for in current regulations, allowing a maximum tolerance of 10% expressed in number of specimens.

In the event that the catches assigned by each vessel reach their maximum limit, they will suspend their extractive activities, without prejudice to establishing administrative or criminal responsibilities for the holders of those who carry out catches above the assigned amount.

The Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe) will inform Produce about the monitoring of the extractive activity and daily catches and will recommend, as soon as the case may be, the conservation measures that are necessary to guarantee the proper use of fishing resources.

Produce: who will be able to fish for anchovy?

Only vessels that have a valid permit and have the assignment of a maximum catch limit per vessel may carry out fishing operations. Seine nets with a minimum mesh size of ½ inch (13 millimeters) will be used in the fishing operation.

When juvenile specimens of anchovy and white anchovy are extracted in percentages greater than 10% of the daily landings from a certain port, fishing activities will be suspended for a minimum period of three consecutive days.

Produces: anchovy exploration

Imarpe will carry out an exploratory fishing for anchovy and white anchovy, starting at 12:00 am on November 15, 2021, for a period of seven calendar days, in the maritime area between 16 ° 00′LS and outside of five o’clock miles from the coast.
