A study by the Spanish Engineering Observatory estimates that more than 200,000 engineers will be needed in the next decade, especially in the industrial sector. The occupancy figure is around 98%.

Based on the data collected in this sectoral study, in Spain today there are some 750,000 engineers, 20% of them women. 40% of engineers in Spain are 35 years old or younger.

The report confirms that there is a salary gap between male and female engineers of around 10% and, although it is “clearly below” the overall active population in Spain, located at 24%, it is a figure that the Observatory considers to be we must eliminate “as soon as possible”.

The University of Deusto hosted this Friday in Bilbao the presentation of the conclusions of the first report on the current situation of Engineering professionals prepared by the Spanish Engineering Observatory.

After the presentation, a round table was opened in which all the speakers agreed to point out the importance of engineering in the future of the economy and consider that professionals with a strong basic training who have “a lot of flexibility” and ability to adapt to a changing world.

The experts have opted to promote “good projects that are exciting and with a purpose” to attract the talent of the youngest to prevent them from “migrating physically or telematically”.
