National production rose just 0.86% in December, its lowest level since February 2021. Fisheries, telecommunications, and the financial sector closed the year negatively.
The Peruvian economy registered only a variation of 2.68% during 2022, according to INEI, thus growing less than expected by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), which expected the GDP to fluctuate between 2.7% and 3%.
In addition, during December national productive activity continued to slow down, to the point that in December it rose just 0.86%, its worst result since February 2021, when it fell to -3.36%.
The sectors that ended 2022 with losses were Fishing (-13.74%), Telecommunications and other services (-1.30%) and Finance and Insurance (-6.96%).
And, in December — marked by the start of nationwide protests in rejection of the Dina Boluarte regime and the demand for a Constituent Assembly — meant that items such as agriculture and manufacturing also registered negative indicators: -0.96% and – 4.65%, respectively.
