The citadel has been closed since last January 20 due to the blockades and demonstrations against the current government.
The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarteannounced this Friday, February 10, during the press conference at the Government Palace, that the opening of Macchu Picchu for this Wednesday February 15th.
The president reported that she met with the mayor of the citadel district, Elvis La Torre, in order to coordinate the upcoming opening to tourists. “We are working for that reopening, which will probably be this February 15or”, said the head of state.
As you remember, Machu Picchu has been closed since last January 20 due to the blockades of train tracks and other accesses to this area of Cusco. Previously, the Machu Picchu Management Unit (UGM) also indicated that a tentative opening date would be the fortnight of this month.
