The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) appointed its new representative in Ecuador. She is Susana Edjang, a Spanish and Equatorial Guinean national, and with more than 16 years of experience in international development from the Americas, Africa and Europe.
The institution was established in 1970 and is currently made up of 19 countries -17 from Latin America and the Caribbean, together with Spain and Portugal- and 13 private banks, it is one of the main sources of multilateral financing and an important generator of knowledge for the region.
CAF will allocate $1.25 billion to projects to protect oceans in Latin America and the Caribbean
Meanwhile, Sergio Díaz-Granados, executive president of CAF, who appointed Edjang, explained that the new representative comes to the country with the purpose of strengthening relations through the formulation of work programs with the public and private sectors that promote sustainable development, economic recovery and green growth.
Edjang spoke about her appointment last Thursday on her Twitter account: “Full of energy and excited about this incredible opportunity to be part of CAF -the green bank and the economic recovery- in wonderful Ecuador,” she said.
The new representative in Ecuador has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in development economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, a master’s degree in public administration from the Harvard University School of Government, and is a Global Fellow of Yale University.
In addition, since 2011 Edjang has worked in different roles in various United Nations agencies, among which are: with the World Food Fund in the development of its first corporate strategy for South-South and Triangular Cooperation; her as counselor minister at the United Nations Security Council where she was in charge of the portfolios of counterterrorism and organized crime, European affairs and international humanitarian law; and at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) at the Liaison Office between the African Union and the Economic Commission for Africa in Ethiopia to advance continental strategies for investment in youth.
In addition, it highlights her seven-year career in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, as manager of his global movement Every Woman, Every Child to accelerate the progress of the Millennium Development Goals for health, mobilizing more than $40 billion from governments, the private sector and civil society.

Later, the new CAF representative in Ecuador, served as adviser on economic, social and development affairs, which included coordinating relations and resources with regional organizations such as the European Union, the League of Arab States, the Union Africa, the G77+China, and international aid for Syria, among others.
