Vice Minister Daniel Legarda raised ten commercial agreements before the end of the Government

During an event, the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade spoke of promoting the export of not only products, but also services.

That Ecuador achieves ten new trade agreements, either with countries or blocs is the objective of the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries, according to the vice minister of that entity, Daniel Legarda.

Said it’s indispensable achieve a relationship with Russia, which is part of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) together with other countries such as Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus, as well as reaching rapprochement with China, Costa Rica, Canada and the United States.

“It is a demanding objective, but we consider it necessary to accelerate it because the country has lost a lot of time,” he said.

Legarda emphasized this goal in a conference given this November 11, within the framework of the 30th anniversary of the Ecuadorian Institute of Economics and Politics (IEEP), held in Guayaquil.

The Minister of Production, Julio José Prado, also participated in the event, who mentioned that this vision is competitive. “We define ten trade agreements with the main economies of the world. In Latin America with Canada, the United States, Panama, the Dominican Republic…, in Asia with Russia, China, South Korea and later Japan ”, he explained.

And to achieve it, he assured that tax stability is required in the country. “The proposed Law (urgent of Economic Development and Fiscal Sustainability) that we are trying to pass in the Assembly has several important elements for trade agreements such as giving tax stability, specific reforms in investments and facilitation of foreign trade,” he says.

Prado believes that maturity is needed in the National Assembly to improve the business climate.

Meanwhile, another of the points discussed in commercial matters was the export of services mentioned by Legarda. He said that it is difficult to statistically measure this sector.

“We are interested in promoting information technology, marketing and design, engineering, environmental services … it is a good space. In electronic commerce we also have to make leaps ”, he indicates.

During the meeting + Ecuador + World for a barrier-free trade, organized by IEEP, participated Álvaro Vargas Llosa, son of the Nobel Prize in Literature Mario Vargas Llosa, who indicated that Latin America needs to join the world market more.

Joaquín Lavín, a Chilean economist and politician, spoke of the need to advance to an international trade in services and not only focus on products.

The United States Ambassador to Ecuador, Michael J. Fitzpatrick; Miguel Ángel González, president of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce; and Gustavo Cáceres, head of the Ecuadorian-China Chamber, were also part of the speakers. In total there were 13 international and 17 national exhibitors.

For the night, the presence of President Guillermo Lasso is scheduled, who will give the closing speech. (I)
