A crowd demands Macron to withdraw the pension reform as the parliamentary debate begins

The massive marches have been repeated, with somewhat less follow-up than in the two previous days, to demand that Emmanuel Macron withdraw the pension reform, on another day of partial strikes in Ipar Euskal Herria and France.

In Baiona, 12,000 people They have taken to the streets, unanimously summoned by the unions. The demonstrators have been 7000 according to the Police. In addition, the conveners have called for another demonstration for this Saturday, February 11. It is expected to be the most massive march.

The strikes have not had as much follow-up as in the previous two weeks; for example, in the transport sector or in education, where fewer teachers have gone on strike. However, monitoring has been extensive, and three out of four refineries have not worked.

The objective of the conveners, the union sector as a whole, is to stop the economy to stop the parliamentary debate. The president’s text has just begun to be debated in tense sessions of the National Assembly.

As in the other two previous mobilizations, the union organizations have led the demonstrations. The CFDT, the main one in France, and the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the second in importance, have reproached Macron and his government for their “deafness” in the face of the opposition of public opinion, mostly against the current reform.

The leaders of the left-wing parties, who are trying to hinder the processing of the reform in the Assembly with a barrage of amendments, have attended the Parisian protest. Spokespersons for the progressive Nupes coalition (formed by the Socialist Party, La Francia Insumisa de Jean-Luc MélenchonEELV environmentalists and the Communist Party) have insisted on how unpopular the reform is.
