Mining investments accumulate more than US$23,000 million in the North macro-region

The Northern macroregion, integrated by Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad and Cajamarca, concentrates the largest mining investment in the country. According to the Mining Investment Project Portfolio 2023, presented by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), holds 44.6% of 11 projects for US$23.972 million.

In this line, the most important projects are located in Cajamarca and are The farm with US$5,000 million investment and Yanacocha Sulfideswhich begins its construction in 2024 and a figure of US$2.5 billion is projected.

Macroregions of the south, center and east

For their part, the South (Apurímac, Arequipa, Cusco, Moquegua and Puno) and Center (Áncash, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Ica, Junín, Lima, Pasco and Huánuco) macro-regions are in second and third place respectively and together represent the 55% participation with an investment of US$29,529 million, according to the new Portfolio prepared by the General Directorate of Mining Promotion and Sustainability.

In detail, in the south 19 mining projects are contemplated, with an investment of US$21.960 million. The most important are Hierro Apurímac ($2.9 billion), Los Chancas ($2.6 billion) and Haquira ($1.86 billion), located in Apurímac.

For his part, in the center there are 16 mining projects with a joint investment of US$7,569. The main ones are Antamina Replacement in Áncash, which totals an investment of US$1,604 million, Toromocho Expansion (US$1,355 million) in Junín, La Arena II (US$1,364 million) in La Libertad, and Immaculate Replacement (US$1,319 million) in Ayacucho.

Finally, the macroregion East, contemplates only one project: the Florida Canyon, located in the Amazonas region. This has an investment of US$214 million and represents 0.4% of the total investment in Portfolio
