National inflation advances 0.46% in January 2023

This figure represents a decline of 0.20% compared to December 2022. For its part, the annual rate reached 8.87%.

During January 2023, the Consumer Price Index at the national level registers a growth of 0.46%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Information Technology (INEI). In this way, it presents a setback compared to December 2022, when it marked 0.66%. Likewise, the annual rate reached 8.87%.

“As expected, the annual rate rebounded (it was 8.46% in December). The good news is that the increase was moderate and the annual rate was less than the maximum of last year,” said Juan Carlos Odar of Phase Consultores.

In addition, it is known that the Price Index in Metropolitan Lima reached 0.23%, after the previous month was at 0.79%. For its part, the National Wholesale Price Index advanced 0.39% in January 2023.

Accumulated inflation in the capital closed 2022 at 8.46%, above what was registered in the last 26 years. On this basis, a new estimate is made for the current year.

The monthly result was influenced by the price increase observed in the consumer divisions: Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0.67%), Restaurants and Hotels (0.53%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0.42%) and Recreation and Culture (0.34%).

To a lesser extent, the prices of Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics (0.31%), Clothing and Footwear (0.27%), Health (0.26%), among others, also rose. While the Transportation division reported a reduction in prices (-0.90%).

What products increased their prices the most?

In the month of January, of the 586 products that make up the family basket, 378 registered price increases, 111 fell and 97 showed no change. The products that reported the highest price increases were: green peas (91.22%), Chinese onion (30.19%), carrot (29.49%)cauliflower (19.95%), olluco (19.86%), corn (18.89%), Italian tomato (16.01%) and mandarin (13.98%).

On the contrary, the products that registered lower prices were: bonito (-22.99%), parakeet (-14.54%), interprovincial bus ticket (-13.00%)national airfare (-12.87%), smooth (-12.86%), gherkin (-11.55%), white grape (-10.40%) and lemon (-9.44%).
