The product most consumed by Peruvians is rice and it has an upward trend due to the suspension of the agricultural campaign due to lack of water resources in the Poechos reservoir.
The leader of the Piura model market, William Tocto, lamented that the trend in rice prices continues to rise, since the value has increased by 10% for each bag. He stressed that this situation arises mainly from the suspension of the campaign for this product due to the low water capacity in the Poechos reservoir. Likewise, he asserted that this is a consequence of the sedimentation of said reservoir and the lack of rain in the upper part of Piura.
In this sense, he explained that each variety of this cereal cost from S/2.50 to S/4.50, but now it has increased from S/0.50 to S/1.00.

He also reported that the price of pasta has also increased by 10% in recent days, mainly due to the increase of imported flour and to the dollar.
Meanwhile, other essential products, such as tomato, potato, onion and cassava, have also risen for three weeks. For example, the merchant stated that a month ago the onion had an amount of S/2.50. Meanwhile, it is now at S/3.00. Similarly, potatoes increased between S/1.00 and S/0.80 per kilo. In addition, cassava is valued at S/4.5 and tomato at S/4.
The merchants informed that they are supplying their stalls with food that comes from the south of the country and the Piura Mountains.
