The leading partners of the digital platforms and distributors of delivery services earn higher incomes than taxi and motorcycle drivers, respectively, despite working similar hours per week, is one of the conclusions reached by a study carried out by the Peruvian Institute of Economics (IPE) and recently released by Comex.
In this way, the investigation carried out until April 2021 revealed that, in Metropolitan Lima, affiliated drivers obtain monthly between S / 1,251 (complementary activity) and S / 1,831 (main activity), while taxi drivers only receive S / 1,534.
In addition, delivery operators achieve between S / 908 (complementary activity) and S / 1,467 (main activity), compared to motorcycle drivers, who acquire S / 1,321 per month.
The investigation also determined that more than 70% of drivers and delivery partners are satisfied with the platforms. About 80% would like their activity to be permanent.
Likewise, the services of the mobility and delivery platforms are concentrated in Lima and Callao. Thus, digital platforms predominate in Metropolitan Lima, with 99.8%, while delivery services are distributed as follows in the national territory: Metropolitan Lima (87.5%), Arequipa (4.5%) , Trujillo (3.4%), Chiclayo (1.4%), Piura (1.3%) and other regions (1.9%).
Digital platforms and their impact on the national economy
According to the study, digital mobility platforms generated S / 85 million, while sales by delivery reached S / 43 million until April 2021. Meanwhile, both types of services throughout 2020 totaled S / 1,421 million.
According to the analysis, one of the main advantages of the applications is that it allows the driving partners to be able to dedicate themselves to other activities. In this way, 47% of drivers and 43% of delivery men have a second source of income.
