Fonavi: MEF would be incurring omission of functions by not starting with the return of contributions

In the 2023 Budget Law, S/50 million was included in order to start with the respective payments. However, no progress has yet been made with the process.

Around 1,200,000 former contributors to the National Housing Fund (Fonavi) still do not receive their money back. This despite the fact that in January, Alex Contreras, Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF)indicated in Congress that he would meet with the members of this group to define the situation and that the monetary return will begin with the money that the commission has.

In this line, José Luna Gálvez, president of the Budget and General Account Commission of the Republic, reiterated that the MEF officials, in charge of this process, they would be incurring omission of functions by not carrying it out, for which reason they could be denounced by the Prosecutor’s Office and, even, receive a sanction from the Comptroller’s Office. In addition, the congressman explained that S/50 million was included in the 2023 Budget Law with the aim of starting the process.

Constitutional Court left to vote lawsuit against the full return of Fonavi contributions

For his part, Luis Luzuriaga, head of the Ad Hoc Commission, who held a meeting last Friday with Luna, maintained that it has been three months since the entourage was installed and there is still no progress. He also denounced obstacles and legal tricks on the part of State officials to prevent the start of the return process.

“This is a social debt that must be fulfilled. Millions of Peruvians, many of them already in their third age, deserve to recover those resources that would allow them to give a better quality of life to their last years,” he reiterated.

Alex Contreras: “We hope that with growth in 2023, poverty will be reduced again”

Likewise, Luzuriaga added that 70% of those who died from the COVID-19 pandemic were older adults, many of whom were pensioners and fonavistas.

“According to figures from the Pension Standardization Office, at least 100,000 were pensioners and Fonavistas; however, due to lack of money, they could not save their lives, despite the fact that they have resources that the State refuses to return,” he said.
