Analysis ratified the recovery of these beaches regarding the hydrocarbon content one year after the disaster in the Ventanilla Sea. 10 beaches are still contaminated.
The OEFA reaffirmed that part of the Ventanilla coastline, affected by the oil spill caused by Repsol a year ago, already has the necessary conditions to resume fishing and recreational activity.
Through a statement, Repsol He explained that 15 — out of a total of 25 beaches — would already be suitable in terms of hydrocarbon content to receive bathers as well as for the extraction of marine species.
Thus, they recalled that the reports from the National Water Authority (ANA) last June and the National Fisheries Health Agency (Sanipes) are consistent in determining that these spaces were recovered as there were no signs of hydrocarbon contamination above levels endorsed.
From OEFA they pointed out to La República that the damage from the oil spill still persists on 10 beaches. Even so, the company alleges that the results of OEFA “are encouraging and allow progress in the return to normality.”
“We reiterate our request to the competent authorities so that, in accordance with the results issued by the authorities last year and reaffirmed in the last sampling carried out by the OEFA, they reopen the beaches suitable for the public and allow the reactivation of artisanal fishing”, Repsol assured in a statement.
